What a joy it was to experience our Children’s Time at church today. The topic was the Olympics and the group discussed how the torch travels all the way from Greece and at the opening ceremony the torch is lit to signal the beginning of the games. The leader of the group talked about how beautiful the scene looks in Rio with the bright light shining over everyone and the giant statue of Jesus with his arms stretched out, reaching out to all of his children.
Then, the kids made a line going down the aisle of the church and passed a homemade torch made with tissue paper and a flashlight. At last, they passed the torch to the pastor who stood under the cross as our reminder that the light of Jesus is always looking over us, no matter where we are, no matter what we are doing. Maybe you need this reminder this week. There is always a light shining on you that never goes out. Hold fast to that light . . . keep your eyes on the light . . . let the light shine on you. God is your light!
